Casino Tropical is part of Hotel Morazan in the city center of San Jose, Costa Rica. Both businesses are privately owned and boast a range of amenities including various accommodation options, a restaurant, bar, and of course, the casino.

The nearest airport, Tobias Bolanos International Airport, is a 20-minute drive from Casino Tropical. There are airport shuttles that transport guests to and from the city center, but you will still need to organize your own transport in order to get to the casino itself. Otherwise, you can take a taxi directly from the airport or rent a car and use the free self-service parking available at the casino.

San Jose is the capital of Costa Rica and features a very lively nightlife and many nearby tourist attractions. Some of the most popular museums in Costa Rica are within walking distance from the casino like the Jade Museum, featuring various geological and archaeological treasures, and the National Museum of Costa Rica, with its various wildlife, cultural, and military exhibits.

Costa Rica is also famous for its black sand beaches. This phenomenon occurs because of the presence of a number of volcanoes; the largest volcano, Volcan Irazu, is only an hours drive away. Braulio Carrillo National Park, Tapanti National Park, and Los Quetzales National Park are all within driving distance from Casino Tropical and offer long hikes through South American rain forests.

Casino Tropical at Hotel Morazan

Casino Tropical is made up of two floors. The first floor is where most of the gambling action takes place and is home to the bulk of their table games and electronic machines. Upstairs you will find the VIP area and be closer to the hotel’s restaurant and bar. The casino is open 24/7, with their table games going offline from 6 AM and reopening again in the evening at 6 PM.

Numerous special events and raffles are organized every month with guests given the opportunity to win money and gift vouchers to be used at the hotel and nearby businesses. Casino Tropical also has a conference room capable of holding up to 60 people which can be rented out for events. Sports enthusiasts can enjoy the live sports action in the bar which has 20 TV’s always showing the latest events.

High limit games are not available in the main gaming area of Casino Tropical and can only be enjoyed in the VIP area which offers guests no-limit cash-only poker games.

Table Games at Casino Tropical San Jose

Card games are the only table games available at Casino Tropical, as there is no roulette offered. These include Pai Gow Poker, Three Card Poker, and Rummy in the main gaming hall. Each table offers the same betting limits with the lowest bet being $1 and the highest $5. This is fun place to play table games although if you are roulette or blackjack fan, you may want to find another establishment.

For other gaming options, including player vs. player poker, you will need to go upstairs to the VIP room. Here they have a few poker tables which offer both standard games at higher limits, and no-limit cash tournaments. Cash game pots can be quite high and you should expect the casino to take a rake form the pots. You can play several styles of poker here as long everyone at the table agrees. However, tournaments tend to stick to NL Texas Hold’em.

Slots and Video Poker at Casino Tropical

Slot machines tend to be very popular at Casino Tropical and there are around 30 machines total. These machines are the only electronic games on offer, with no video poker or electronic table games available.

Each machine has its own betting options and they have newer video machines will allow you to change your bet between spins using coin bets or increasing or decreasing line bets. There are also a few slots in the VIP room which offer higher maximum bets.

Hotel and Accommodations at Casino Tropical

As you already know, Casino Tropical is located inside the Hotel Morazan and offers a variety of raffles and surprises to encourage gamblers to stay here. It is however not required for gamblers to be guests at the hotel.

Hotel Morazan offers guests 6 room choices that vary in size and in-room facilities. All other amenities in the hotel are available to all guests. Their standard room package will cost you around $60 a night, with their more extravagant rooms going up to $100 a night and including in-room features like Jacuzzis and a TV lounge.

Free parking, access to the hotel WiFi, and complimentary breakfast are available and there is also a laundry service available and a restaurant and bar – both of which will cost you extra.

Restaurants at Casino Tropical

The casino itself does not have a restaurant, but the hotel’s restaurant, Tropical Sports Bar & Restaurant, is available to guests and the public and can be found on the second floor. Drinks and light meals can be ordered from the comfort of your table game or slot machine. The restaurant is open daily from 6 AM and closes at 10 PM, during the week, and until midnight on weekends. All menu items are light and casual. Options include toasted sandwiches, burgers, chicken wings, and omelets.
